Troy Cordes (Dunkerton, IA) bested the 47-car IMCA Modified field for the 2015 Frostbuster win at the Benton County Speedway (Vinton, IA) on Thursday, April 2, 2015. Cordes had to hold off hard charges from Todd Shute (Des Moines, IA) and Hunter Marriott (Brookfield, MO) for the win.

Shute took the lead as the 25-lap modified main event roared to life. Cordes was right on his heels. The duo pulled away from the field, but a yellow on lap three would tighten the pack. On the restart, Cordes began to attack Shute for the lead, and the tandem would pull away from the field.

Marriott started the A-Main in the seventh, and he had to work his way through two and three wide battles to crack into the third spot on lap 17.

The pressure started to mount for Cordes on lap 18. He had ran into heavy lap traffic. That allowed Shute and eventually Marriott to close in.

“There was no where to go,” Cordes said after the race. “I couldn't go anywhere. They (lap traffic) were two wide in front of me. I knew that Shute was all over me, and I also knew that Hunter would be coming. I just kept hoping for the white flag.”

During the last three laps, Cordes, Shute, and Marriott ran two and three wide battling for the win. The crowd came to their feet as Cordes, 2014 Benton County Speedway IMCA Modified track champion, would edge the two pursuers for the $1,000 Frostbuster win. Shute would have to settle for second.

“I was fighting a tight race car,” Shute recalled. “I was following in his (Cordes) tire tracks. The lap traffic helped me catch him. I felt Marriott there too. There were cars everywhere. I was so focused on what was going on in front of me, that when the checkered came out, I thought it was the white flag. All in all, it was a good night.”

Marriott finished third followed by Brady Theys (Kewaunee, WI). Wednesday night's Frostbuster winner Jason Wolla (Ray, ND) rounded out the Top 5.

During the IMCA Stock Car feature, Damon Murty (Chelsea, IA) made it two-for-two during the Frosterbuster swing. Nathan Wood (Sigourney , IA) was the early race leader and looked destine for the win, but two early cautions kept the field on his heels. Murty worked his No. 99d underneath Wood's No 52 and captured the lead and drove to the win. Brett Koehler (Two Rivers, WI) slipped passed Wood late to finish second. Wood, Brendon LaBatte (Weyburn, Sask, CAN) and Rick Mahlberg, (Denmark, WI) rounded out the Top 5.

The 2014 Benton County Speedway IMCA Hobby Stock track champion picked up right where he left off last season. Benji Irvine (Oelwein, IA) led all 16 laps for the IMCA Hobby Stock Frostbuster win. Austin Luellen (Minburn, IA) and Nathan Ballard (Marengo, IA) rounded out the Top 3.

Sam Wieben (Dysart, IA) took the led on lap two during the IMCA Northern SportMod main event. Wednesday's Frostbuster winner Lucas Lamberies (Clintonville, WI) applied heavy pressure late, but Wieben took the victory. Lamberies finished second followed by Tony Olson (Cedar Rapids, IA).

Don Erger (Brandon, IA) took the win in the BCS Micro Mods A-Main.

The 2015 IMCA Frostbuster travels to the Marshalltown Speedway for Day 3. The four-day swing of races will end on Saturday at the Boone Speedway.
