The final 2015 IMCA Late Model Sunday Series race is set for this Sunday, August 30, and the top two contenders are separated by only one point.

Todd Conney (Des Moines, IA) sits atop the current point standings with 306 points. John Emerson (Waterloo, IA) finds himself just one single point behind with only one race left on the schedule.

Cooney has two Sunday Series win this season (August 3 & July 5) and seven top five finishes across the eight races contested to date. The most impressive stat for the driver of the Casey’s General Stores #30 is his four second place finishes.

“We will race it just like a normal night,” current point leader Cooney said about the series finale. “We’re going to go out there and try and win.”

Emerson has two Sunday Series wins (August 23 and June 7) this year. The most impressive stat for the Emerson Cranes #87 is that he has finished in the top five in all eight races held so far.

“The plan is just like every week, go out there and try to win,” Emerson said of the team’s game plan for Sunday. “I feel like we've had the upper hand at B.C.S. (Benton County Speedway) this year, and it's like a second home to me and one of my favorite tracks.

“I'm feeling good about Sunday because I've been making changes to the car and it keeps on getting faster so hopefully it all pays off,” Emerson added.

It basically boils down to who ever beats the other on the track wins the title. If Cooney finishes ahead of Emerson, he will be crowned the IMCA Late Model Sunday Series Champion. Emerson needs to finish two spots in front of Cooeny to be declared the champion. If he only finishes one spot ahead, the two drivers will be tied. With both drivers tied at two wins, Cooney holds the current tie breaker by virtue of more second place finishes.

For Cooney's BCS finishes, he has finished second on two separate occasions and one eighth place finish. Emerson has scored to third place finishes and one fifth place finish.

The IMCA Late Model Sunday series will race its finale event this Sunday at the Benton County Speedway in Vinton, IA.
