Kay & Marriott Take Wins at Independence

It was another packed grandstands at the Independence Motor Speedway. The pit area was no exception with 113 drivers checking in for competition on May 9, 2015.

Justin Kay made the 'test and tune' trip pay off in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature. Kay led every lap of the caution-free 25 lap A-Main.

“It's been a while since we've been here to Independence,” Kay said while standing in the Budweiser Victory. “We wanted to get a little testing in before the July Deery (Brothers Summer Series) race (July 8). This 'Gheer'd Up Race Car' is amazing.”

Travis Smock tried to work past Kay early in the Late Model feature, but Kay eventually pulled away. Smock settled for second. Tyler Droste started 11th and worked his way into a battle for third in the closing stages. Thanks a a two-car pass on the last lap, Droste finished third. Curt Martin and Darren Ackerman rounded out the Top 5.

Ron Lauritzen lead early in the 20-lap Performance Bodies IMCA Modifed A-Main. Patrick Flannigan and Hunter Marriott battled hard behind Lauritzen for the second spot. Eventually Marriott broke free and began tracking down the leader. A late race caution flag brought Marriott right on the back bumper of Lauritzen. Marriott used the highside to make the move for the lead and drove off for the win. Lauritzen came home second followed by Flannigan, JD Auringer, and Adam Johnson.

Jarod Weepie led the first five laps in the Burco Sales IMCA Stock Car feature. Roger Ciesielski stole the lead and never looked back. Justin Temeyer would apply heavy pressure in the closing laps, be finished a close second. 14th place starter Scotty Pippert finished third. Norman Chesmore and Weepie finished 4th and 5th.

Benji Irvine had to hold off Billy Rhodes for the win in the Big Daddy Chassis IMCA Hobby Stock A-Main. Jenae Gustin took the checkered flag in the Tenacity Graphics IMCA SportMod A-Main, and Tristan Cordes won the RCZ Enterprises Indee Car feature.
