The man currently serving as interim president at the University of Northern Iowa is in the running to keep the job permanently.

Dr. A. James Wohlpart is the second finalist named in the search to find the school's new leader, the Board of Regents announced on Tuesday (Nov. 29, 2016).

Wohlpart is scheduled to meet with faculty, staff, students and members of the community on Wednesday. He will participate in a 75-minute public forum that begins at 2:30 p.m. in the Old Central Ballroom of Maucker Union on campus.

Prior to being named provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at UNI in March, Wohlpart spent the previous 21 years at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU). He held numerous leadership roles at FGCU and was a key figure in its development. FGCU first held classes in 1997, six years after being established as a public institution.

Wohlpart was named Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at UNI on June 1. He began serving as UNI's interim president on July 5, following the resignation of former President Bill Ruud (Wohlpart's Biography).

On Monday, the Board of Regents announced former Temple University president Dr. Neil Theobald is among the finalists being considered for the top leadership position at UNI. A third finalist is expected to be announced on Wednesday.
