Charges are pending in a weekend accident at a Fayette County bridge.
At about 10:45pm Saturday (Oct. 8), the Fayette County Sheriff received a report of a rollover accident on 40th street, at the Wapsipinicon River bridge, northeast of Fairbank.

An investigation determined that 18 year old Mason Meyer of Strawberry Point was driving at a very high rate of speed, when he lost control, striking the bridge, propelling the car over the bridge into the river.

Meyer and a juvenile passenger were taken to Mercy Hospital in Oelwein, to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The Pontiac Bonneville was totaled.

According to the Fayette County sheriff, alcohol likely played a role in the accident, which remains under investigation.

The Fayette County Sheriff was assisted by the Oran Fire Department and First Responders, Fairbank Ambulance, Mercy Ambulance, Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office and Fairbank Police Department.
