A shooting in Waterloo earlier this week has turned fatal. A man being treated for multiple gunshot wounds died at a local hospital Friday morning (Nov. 4, 2016).

Investigators confirmed that Darrell Lanier, 22, of Waterloo, died of internal injuries following multiple surgeries at UnityPoint-Allen Hospital. Lanier had been in the intensive care unit, listed in critical condition, since his arrival at the hospital, Waterloo Police Captain Dave Mohlis said.

Lanier was rushed to the hospital to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds after officers found him on the ground, unconscious, behind a home in the 1800 block of Franklin Street Tuesday morning. Authorities responded to the area of Rhey and Fowler streets shortly after 10:30 a.m. when neighborhood residents reported hearing gunshots.

The shooting remains under investigation. Authorities are asking for the public's help in solving the crime. Mohlis said anyone with information should contact Waterloo police at (319) 291-4340.
