Waterloo Native Cal Petersen Recalled By The L.A. Kings

Last summer, The L.A. Kings extended former Black Hawk and Waterloo native, Cal Petersen's 3 year contract and paid him a cool $2.575 million dollars.

Following a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the net minder had been recalled by the Kings. Petersen was spending time in the crease with their NHL affiliate the Ontario Reign. According to the Reign's website, Petersen owns a 17-15-4 record, a .906 save percentage and a 3.43 goals against average from 37 games played this season with the Reign. Petersen leads the American Hockey League in minutes played, saves and shots faced this season.

During his time in the United States Hockey League (USHL), Petersen played more than two full seasons for the Black Hawks. He set the Waterloo junior era record with 51 career regular season victories, which included 27 wins during the 2013-14 season when the Black Hawks claimed the Anderson Cup for having the USHL's best regular season record.

Petersen also had ten wins in 16 career playoff appearances, including helping Waterloo reach the 2014 Clark Cup Championship Series. That spring, he was recognized as USA Hockey’s "Dave Peterson Goaltender of the Year" Award winner. From Waterloo, Petersen spent three seasons at Notre Dame.
