Waterloo Drubbed By Dubuque On Sat. Night – Still In 1st Place
In a rare occurrence, the Black Hawks game was snowed-out on Friday night, then Waterloo's sticks went cold and they lost to the Fighting Saints on Saturday night. Waterloo is still in 1st place in the USHL's Western Conference at 24-8-1 and 49 points, with 2nd place Fargo trailing behind at 40 points.
Saturday night at Dubuque
With goals in every period Saturday, Dubuque steadily built an insurmountable lead at Mystique Ice Center, topping the Black Hawks 4-1. Dane Montgomery spoiled the Saints' Erik Portillo’s shut-out bid with just under 10 minutes remaining. Ryan Drkulec swiped the puck in the defensive zone and sprung Montgomery up the rink one-on-one. Montgomery kept his balance while stepping around an attempted hip check by Braden Doyle to beat Portillo under the crossbar. Waterloo out-shot Dubuque in every period, including 15-8 in the third, but Portillo made 38 saves for the win.
Hawks/Saints Friday Game Postponed
The Black Hawks’ Friday, January 17th road game at Mystique Ice Center against the Fighting Saints was postponed due to poor weather and travel conditions across Iowa. The contest will be played at a later date, with details to be announced as soon as possible.
