A Waterloo man wanted for the fatal shootings of two women in the city is now police custody.

According to Waterloo police, 36-year-old Matthew Buford III was arrested just before midnight Wednesday in Peoria, Illinois. He's be held in a jail there on a $1 million bond, awaiting extradition back to Iowa.

Buford is accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend, 42-year-old Tamica Allison, and her cousin, 41-year-old Andrea Anderson, both of Waterloo, late Monday. Police found the bodies of the two women just before 11:30 PM when they were dispatched to Buford's apartment house at 1112 West 2nd Street to investigate a report of a suspicious incident.

On Tuesday, Waterloo police issued a warrant for Buford's arrest. Authorities plan to charge him with two counts of first-degree murder.
