It has now been two years in a row, where The University of Iowa has seen a drop off in international student enrollment. According to a top recruiting official, international student enrollment has declined in many institutions. Since 2015, the number of international students has dropped about 44% and is continuing to decline. One reason for this massive drop off is the lack of Chinese student enrollment.

China is increasingly adding to its educational infrastructure every year, so competition is increasing ten-fold. This report also indicates that when the value of the dollar increases Chinese students have a harder time converting their 'yen' to dollars, as the yen is less valuable.

Visas are also becoming harder to obtain as of late. With recent immigration policies and setbacks, students are finding it much more difficult to make their way to the United States, let alone our small state of Iowa. Read the full story here.
