Monday night, shortly after 10:00, a tornado hit near the Dubuque Airport. It was rated an EF-1 with peak winds of 100mph and only traveled around 1/3 of a mile. It caused damage to corn, trees, and some homes. Two houses had their roofs partially torn off, and another suffered damage from a pine tree that was thrown into the side of the house. Photos HERE.

This is the 36th confirmed tornado in Iowa this year and the first since July 9th, according to the NWS. Iowa averages just under 50 tornadoes per year, but only 3, on average, in the month of August.
