Target Announces Family Leave Policy; Boosts Backup Care Benefit
Minneapolis (KROC AM News) – Some big benefit bumps are coming soon for employees of Target.
The retailer announced Monday it has decided to begin offering paid family leave and will also expand its backup care benefit.
According to a company press release, Target will extend its backup care benefit to all stores and distribution centers. The program was initially introduced at Target’s headquarters in Minneapolis. It will include 20 days of in-center childcare or in-home child and eldercare. It will be expanded this fall.
The new paid family leave benefit begins June 30th.
According to the release, it “will give hourly and salaried workers, including part-time employees, the ability to be home with a new child or care for a sick family member. The benefit applies to children born to a Target staff member, or a child that's been adopted, or joins a family through foster placement or surrogacy. This benefit is on top of the medical leave that workers receive after giving birth.”
Target also raised its minimum wage to $13 an hour this month. It said earlier the minimum wage would rise to $15 an hour by the end of 2020.
