The State Hygienic Lab has confirmed a second case of measles in northeast Iowa.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, another unvaccinated resident is infected with the disease. The unidentified person is a household contact of the recently confirmed measles case, which was reported on Monday.

In the first case, state health officials said an unvaccinated northeast Iowa resident contracted measles while on a trip to Israel, where outbreaks have been reported.

According to health officials, the second person with measles was identified as part of the investigation of the initial case. They said there's no threat to the public because the second person has been isolated at home during the measles incubation period.

State health officials said the measles cases should serve as a reminder for all Iowans to ensure their vaccinations are up-to-date.
