Some area school districts are dismissing students early today, due to excessive heat.

Weather forecasters are predicting another sunny, hot and humid day with high temperatures in the lower to middle 90s across Iowa. Heat index values are expected to be between 95°-105°.

Below is the list of school announcements for Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020.


Aplington-Parkersburg: Dismissing 2 1/2 Hours early the rest of the week (Aug. 27-28)

Charles City: High School only dismissing at 1 PM. Buses will be provided to high school students who need transportation.

Denver: Dismissing 2 hours early the rest of the week (Aug. 27-28)

Dike-New Hartford: Dismissing 2 hours early the rest of the week (Aug. 27-28)

East Buchanan: Dismissing at 12:30 PM

Eastern Allamakee: Dismissing 2 hours early

Edgewood-Colesburg: Dismissing at 1:30 PM the rest of the week (Aug. 27-28)

Gladbrook-Reinbeck: Dismissing 2 hours early the rest of the week (Aug. 27-28)

Nashua-Plainfield: Dismissing 2 hours early

North Fayette Valley CSD will be dismissing 2 hours early on Thursday

Sumner-Fredericksburg: Dismissing at 1:05 PM Thursday and Friday.

Tripoli: Dismissing at 12:45 PM; No after school child care

Waverly-Shell Rock: Dismissing early the rest of the week. Shell Rock Elementary at 12:25 PM; Waverly elementaries and Lied Center at 12:40 PM; middle school at 12:45 PM; and high school at 1 PM. Intake conferences will be held as scheduled.
