Fire severely damaged a rural Cedar Falls mobile home late Friday.

A neighbor called 911 to report the fire at 2508 Union Road, No. 46, around 11:30 PM. When firefighters and public safety officers arrived at the Cedar Falls Mobile Home Village, they found the structure fully engulfed.

Water to fight the fire had to be shuttled to the scene using a Cedar Falls Fire Rescue tanker truck, Fire Chief John Bostwick said. Several hoses were used to extinguish the fire.

According to Bostwick, the owner of the mobile home was at work at the time of the fire. He said Vicky Mecklenberg, a friend, was staying at the residence and was at home when the fire started. She was outside when fire crews arrived.

Bostwick said the mobile home sustained significant and he expected it to be a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The American Red Cross was been contacted to assist the residents.
