A Raymond man was arrested after leading authorities on a 50-minute, high-speed chase through two counties Saturday evening.

Anthony Amundson 36, was taken into custody on a charge of eluding. He was also cited for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, speeding, failure to obey a stop sign and other traffic-related offenses.

According to Buchanan County sheriff's officials, Amundson failed to pull over when a deputy attempted to stop his vehicle for a traffic violation in the 1000 block of 175th Street, north of Jesup, around 6:15 PM. Authorities initiated a pursuit, which involved roads near Jesup, Elk Run Heights, Raymond, Gilbertville, La Porte City and Brandon.

Officials said the pursuit reached speeds that topped 100 MPH, before another Buchanan County deputy successfully deployed spike strips on Jesup Road near U.S. Highway 20 in Black Hawk County, southwest of Jesup. The chase eventually ended in the 6300 block of Lafayette Road in Raymond.

According to officials, Amundson had active arrest warrants out of Black Hawk County. A passenger in the vehicle was detained, but was subsequently released.

The incident is still being investigated and further charges are pending, officials said.
