Parts of Iowa Seeing New COVID-19 Case Spike

As the U.S.A. just passed it's single day high for new COVID-19 cases, according to CNBC, Iowa is not immune from seeing new cases either. Lots of them. The Globe Gazette in Mason City reports Cerro Gordo county has seen a 70% increase in cases in the past two weeks, while the Quad City Times indicates a surge has been happening, and is hitting people under 30 especially hard as they fail to follow proper social distancing guidelines put in place by the state and businesses. Scott County, where Davenport is located, has reported 35 cases since Sunday.

So does that mean we'll soon be back to having all the area businesses close once again? No. KCRG reports Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds doesn’t plan to reinstate COVID restrictions, as cases climb in some parts of Iowa. She attributes higher case totals not to poor social distancing, but rather increased testing now available throughout the state. As someone who was able to get a COVID-19 test without symptoms, I can tell you, it's very easy to get a test in Iowa.

So why are cases spiking in Iowa, and across the U.S.A.? Additional testing? Poor implementation of social distancing? Are people just bored with staying at home, and with summer upon us wanting to be out and about? All the above, perhaps.
