Authorities in Black Hawk County are investigating a two-vehicle accident that killed one person on Wednesday (Dec. 2, 2015).

The fatal crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. on East Dunkerton Road (County Road C-66) about a half-mile east of North Raymond Road (V-49) near Dunkerton. According to sheriff's officials, the driver of a westbound vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound vehicle, driven by Darlene Hammond, 48, of Hudson.

The driver of the westbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff's deputies said. The victim hasn't yet been identified.

Investigators believe weather may have been a factor in the mishap. Sheriff's officials said the roadway was approximately 95-perfect ice covered at the time of the accident.
