The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is conducting an inquiry of an officer-involved shooting in Vinton on Friday (Sept. 8, 2018).

Lyle Fowler, 43, is accused of shooting in the direction of police officers who went to his home for a welfare check around 8 PM. According to a press release, the officers returned fire. No one was injured.

Fowler is being held in the Benton County jail. He's charged with two counts of assault on a peace officer with a dangerous weapon, two counts of interference with officials acts and two counts of going armed with intent. The charges are all Class-D felonies.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety has identified the officers involved in the shooting as Sgt. Benjamin Parmater and patrol officer Katlyn Schimerowski of the Vinton Police Department. Members of the Iowa State Patrol, Benton County Sheriff's Office, Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Vinton Fire Department assisted in this incident.

According to state public safety officials, no further information will be released until a review of the shooting has been completed by Benton County Attorney’s Office.
