Oelwein Man Injured In Black Hawk County Accident

Authorities are investigating a single-vehicle accident that injured an Oelwein man in Black Hawk County Monday night (Jan. 18, 2016).

The crash occurred in the 5800 block of Independence Ave., north of Raymond. Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the scene shortly after 9:30 p.m.

The initial investigation indicates that a car driven by Bobby Higgins, 28, crossed the center line of a roundabout and rolled into a ditch, moments after an on-coming vehicle was forced off the road to avoid a head-on collision, sheriff's officials said.

Higgins was taken to a Waterloo hospital to be treated for his injuries. He was later transferred to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
