Love it, or hate it. The new Iowa license plate was been revealed. The votes have been tallied, and we have a winning design.

Back on August 10, 2017, the Iowa Department of Transportation announced that the license plates we attach to our vehicles would be getting a face lift. Three choices were introduced (pictured above), and we, the citizens of Iowa, got to vote on which one would win.

Yesterday (August 21), the Iowa DOT Director Mark Lowe along with Gov. Kim Reynolds and Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg, revealed the winning plate (web). As usual when it comes to these things, my choice did not win out. In fact the one I like the least scored the victory.

The winning choice was entitled 'City and Country Reboot' (above), and it features the Des Moines city-scape, a windmill, a barn, and a silo. Maybe it's because I don't live in Des Moines, but I wasn't a fan of the city-scape on our current plates. All though this plate does a better job to represent more of our great state's landscape, I'm just not a fan of this 'reboot'.

'Flying Our Colors' (Iowa DOT)

I preferred the one called 'Flying Our Colors. Modeled after our state flag, it was a departure from the whole city-scape look we currently have. I loved the hawk watermark in the white section, and no I'm not a Iowa Hawkeyes fan, far from it. The reason is that I've lived in this state my entire life, and I'm proud of that fact, so I've always felt a sense of pride when I see our state's flag waving in the breeze.

So no, I'm not a fan of the new design, but it's just a license plate. I won't be upset about the new metal that I will eventually have to attach to my vehicle. When I have to pay more for my right to drive in this state in order to pay for that new piece of metal, well that might ruffle my hawk feathers.
