Country group Midland continue their throwback, dance floor-packing ways with "Put the Hurt on Me." The soft rock- and Latin-tinged honky-tonk tune teases Let It Roll, the follow-up album to the trio's 2017 career breakthrough On the Rocks. Press play above to listen!

Over forlorn guitar strains, the song -- co-written by the trio's Mark Wystrach, Cameron Duddy and Jess Carson, alongside ace Nashville songwriters Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne -- tells the story of a love that hurts so good. "Kill me softly baby with your kiss / If I go I wanna go like this / Come on be as cruel as you can be / Yeah baby, put the hurt on me," the chorus  croons.

"Put the Hurt on Me" is the next taste of the new album, which is due out on Aug. 23. Prior single "Mr. Lonely" started the hype train, pairing a rollicking, good-time tune with a surreal music video starring Dennis Quaid as the song's unlucky lead character.  While Midland haven't shared a full track list of the project, the group has indicated that their next album will be a culmination of all the lessons they've learned on the road after releasing their studio debut.

"Everything we've learned out on the road touring On the Rocks is all right here in this album," Wystrach states in a press release. "These songs are deeply personal and from the heart."

Despite their evolution as a group, they haven't changed their basic style, adds bandmate Carson. "A lot of what was is still so cool, and with the help of [producer] Dann [Huff], Shane and Josh, as well as the support of [Big Machine label head] Scott [Borchetta] and Big Machine, we're able to be true to the music and keep our kind of country alive," he points out.

Shortly after announcing plans to release Let it Roll, the trio unveiled a brand-new Fall 2019 Let it Roll Tour. The jaunt will kick off in mid-September in New York City.
