Maren Morris celebrated International Women's Day and the release of her new album Girl with an empowering performance on the Today show on Friday (March 8).

Morris took to the Today show's Citi Concert series to officially introduce her album to the world, performing a triage of songs that flexed all of her strengths while combining soul, R&B and country. Equipped with her guitar, she kicked off her set with the soulful single "Girl," her voice strong and steady in spite of the cold weather in New York City. Everyone from teenage girls to a team of female fire fighters could be seen singing along to the inspiring song:

She delivered a dose of R&B with "The Bones," using it as an opportunity to interact with the young women in the packed crowd before singing directly to a young girl standing at the front of the stage.

Morris — whose music blends pop and country elements — rounded out the show with a fiery performance of "The Middle," exuding confidence and sass as she made her way through the crowd and danced with Today hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie.

In between performances, the trailblazing star took the time to acknowledge International Women's Day, saying she was "emotional" interacting with all of the men and women who gathered to honor the special day. She also touched on the underrepresentation of women in country music.

"The more that we stay silent, the more we're complicit in the fact that there's a problem and nothing's happening about it. So I try to use my platform and call on my sisters and give them the opportunities I was given by others," she says. "That's all you can really do is take action and not just keep talking about it."

Morris is doing exactly that by bringing RaeLynn and Cassadee Pope out with her on the Girl: The World Tour, which launched on Saturday (March 9) and continues through August.
