A crash involving a motorcycle and a semi in Floyd County killed one man and injured another late Sunday afternoon (July 17, 2016).

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the motorcycle pulled out from a stop sign and crossed into the path of a westbound semi. Troopers said the rig went off the road and overturned when the driver attempted to avoid the collision.

Investigators said Thomas Houdek, 23, of Charles City, was operating the motorcycle and was killed in the crash. They identified the semi driver as Joshua Brood, 44, of Plainfield, who was air-lifted to a Mason City hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

Sunday's crash occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Quarry Road and U.S. Highway 218/18 -- also known as the Avenue of the Saints -- near Floyd. The accident remains under investigation.
