Local Man Arrested After Tuesday Night Chase

An Oelwein motorist faces charges after he tried to elude officers Tuesday (July 12) night.
At about 8:30pm, 37 year old Joshua Freedom Smith was taken into custody following an incident in the area of 4th Avenue SE and 7th Street SE.

Smith was charged with eluding, driving while his license is suspended, and numerous traffic citations.

Oelwein Police were assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Fayette County Sheriff, Buchanan County Sheriff, and Fairbank Police.

An Oelwein man has been arrested on a theft charge. Shortly after 8:30pm Tuesday, 39 year old Michael Rickert was taken into custody after an incident in the 100 block of 2nd Street SE.

He was charged with Theft-5th degree.
