Local Businessman Dies in Hunting Accident
A local businessman has died in a weekend hunting accident.
It happened Saturday morning (Dec. 24); at about 11:30am, the Butler County Sheriff received a report of a man who sustained a gunshot wound near Allison.
According to sources, 47 year old Kirk Hummel of Waverly was hunting rabbits with his wife, Kathleen, on a farm owned by Hummel's parents.
An accidental discharge from Kathleen Hummel's rifle struck her husband, Kirk.
Kirk was transferred to a local hospital, but died before arrival.
Kirk Hummel had been a long-time employee of 1st National Bank in Waverly.
The accident is under investigation by the Iowa DNR.
