Kacey Musgraves Rocks Out With Gloria Gaynor for ‘I Will Survive’ in NYC [WATCH]
Kacey Musgraves' recent performance of pop classic "I Will Survive" at New York City's Radio City Music Hall wasn't the first time she's covered the iconic hit, but it was the first time she performed it as a duet with the original recording artist! Press play above to watch the special moment.
During her set on Tuesday night (Oct. 15), Musgraves began a rendition of the song solo. During the first verse, however, she treated fans to a special surprise, bringing out musical legend Gloria Gaynor. To roaring applause from the audience, the two performers traded lines throughout the song. Between verses, the two also expressed their fandom for each other.
"Isn't she wonderful?" Gaynor said to the crowd after their performance. "I recorded this song in 1975, 40 years ago, and I can't tell you how pleased I am that Kacey is carrying on the tradition, helping you all to survive."
"Thank you so much for joining me," Musgraves responded, as the two artists shared a hug.
On social media, Gaynor also shared a video of herself and Musgraves backstage at the New York, N.Y. venue following their surprise duet. "You are such a sweetheart, Kacey!" the iconic performer wrote. Gaynor released her massive hit, "I Will Survive," in 1978. The song became a disco anthem, and continues to rank among her most enduring, career-defining songs.
Musgraves' Radio City Music Hall performance was the first of two back to back dates scheduled for the iconic venue. Those appearances come as part of her Oh, What a World: Tour II trek. The run will close out at Nashville, Tenn.'s Bridgestone Arena on Oct. 25.
