An Iowa judge declared that part of the state's voter ID law is unconstitutional. The law previously prohibited issuing voter ID cards to anyone with a driver's license. But the judge in the case on Tuesday ruled that all registered voters should be able to get a voter ID card if they want one.

The judge also struck down signature match provisions, ruling that they too were unconstitutional. The League of United Latin American Citizens of Iowa filed the lawsuit against the laws. They claimed that the new laws weren't fair to younger and older voters in the state. They stated that there is still a form of voter suppression when it comes to voter IDs.

County auditors will continue to work with Secretary of State Paul Pate to ensure a new system is in place by election day. Pate released a statement saying that the ruling "is a victory for election integrity."
