An inmate at the Linn County jail, has been taken to a hospital after an apparent medical emergency.


Just before 4:30pm Wednesday (Oct. 7), the staff at the Linn County Correctional Center in Cedar Rapids was alerted that an inmate in one of the cellblocks, was not breathing and had no pulse.

Another inmate had started CPR, until medical staff from the Area Ambulance and Linn County Sheriff's Rescue 57, were summoned to the jail.

The male inmate, whose name was not released, was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, but a report on his condition was not available.

According to the Linn County Sheriff, the adult male inmate had only been in custody since Wednesday morning, a few hours before he was found unresponsive.  The reason for the inmate's incarceration was not released.

The investigation continues.
