During times of quarantine, many of us find ourselves either overbuying groceries at the store or ordering in more. However is it cheaper to buy groceries these days or order out?

If you are like me, you probably order out more often than cook at home because you are not the best cook and don't want to burn down your apartment (am I the only one worried about this?). If you are doing this you may actually be saving more money than buying groceries.

According to Thrillist, there are some new statistics out from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics that suggest cooking at home has become more expensive. The statistics state that Americans are paying 4.3% more for meat, poultry, fish and eggs from the grocery store. Alongside that they are also paying 1.5% more for vegetables and 2.9% more for breakfast cereal and bakery products. It has even been stated that grocery prices have gone up 2.6% more which is the sharpest increase in prices since February of 1974.

There are many reasons for this increase that include quarantine, people overbuying for food which means supplies running out faster in stores and due to COVID-19 it is harder to restock items during quarantine procedures and social distancing efforts. Hopefully prices can go back to normal sooner rather than later!
