Iowa’s Coronavirus Cases Surge Past 15,000

The number of coronavirus cases in Iowa has surpassed the 15,000.

New figures released by the Iowa Department of Public Health Tuesday show 15,296 people across the state have tested positive for COVID-19. At 11:30 AM, a chart on the state’s COVID-19 in Iowa website showed the number of daily positive tests were trending downward since an all-time high of 784 cases were recorded on April 29.

To date, 367 Iowans have died from the coronavirus and 7,847 people have recovered.

Local health officials in Black Hawk County reported two additional deaths from COVID-19 Tuesday, increase the county's number of deaths to 34. They also reported 19 new cases, raising the overall number to 1,862.

In other parts of northeast Iowa at noon Tuesday, Allamakee County reported 115 overall cases and four deaths, Bremer County reported 65 cases and five deaths, Clayton County reported 30 cases and three deaths, and Buchanan County reported 26 cases and no deaths. State health officials said Fayette County had 25 cases and no deaths, Winneshiek County had 21 cases and no deaths, Butler County had 14 cases and no deaths, Delaware County had 12 cases and no deaths, and Floyd County had 11 cases and one death.

According to state health officials, a total of 107,196 people have been tested since the pandemic began in Iowa just over two months ago.
