Iowa native Brett Moffitt resumes his battle to try and win the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year. This weekend he brings the No. 34 CSX 'Play It Safe' Ford to the Irish Hills in Michigan.

When the Front Row Motorsports team arrives for this weekend's Pure Michigan 400, it will mark Moffitt's third appearance behind the wheel.

The Grimes, IA native sits second overall for the 2015 NASCAR Sunoco Rookie of the Year. He trails Jeb Burton by only eight points with 14 races left.

Moffitt is optimistic about the weekend.

"The challenge of Michigan is that it's so aero-dependent," Moffitt said in a press release published by Front Row Motorsports. "I'm glad we're going there with the new rules package.

"I know a lot of people didn't like it at Indy, but Indy is such a different track having just one lane. Where hopefully at Michigan there will be enough room to move around in the corner and then still get the good pulls down the straightaway. Hopefully that theory works, and it will be a lot of fun if it does."

Despite a 31st place finish at Pocano, the last time Moffitt piloted the No. 34, he felt the team did perform well in Long Pond, PA.

"Our A&W Ford was actually pretty sporty," Moffitt remembered. "We were able to turn some good laps and pass some cars. We would've had a top-25 finish for sure if we'd kept going the way we were. But we had a speeding penalty late, and then we needed a caution at the end there to help us save fuel and we didn't get one. But all in all, the car was decent and it wasn't a bad run."

NBC will carry the Pure Michigan 400 this Sunday (August 16, 2015) on NBCSN. Coverage starts at 1:00 PM-CDT.
