State health officials announced 96 new coronavirus cases Wednesday morning, along with four deaths.

In her daily press briefing, Gov. Kim Reynolds said the deaths included an Allamakee County adult over the age of 81 and a Clayton County adult between the ages of 61 and 80. The deaths are the first for each county.

According to the Iowa Department of Public Health, 53 people have died from COVID-19. Reynolds said 49-percent of the deaths and more than 10-percent of the positive cases in Iowa involve long-term care facilities, seven of which are now reporting outbreaks of COVID-19.

The number of total cases in Iowa has increased to 1,995. Seven new cases are from Black Hawk County, where 85 people have tested positive.

Since testing began on March 7th, Allamakee has reported 24 cases, Bremer County nine, Buchanan County eight, Clayton County seven, Fayette and Winneshiek Counties with five each, Chickasaw and Delaware Counties with two each, and Grundy and Howard with one case each.

Linn County has reported 276 cases and 11 deaths, the highest numbers among Iowa’s 99 counties. Tama County has reported 111 cases, along with three deaths. Benton County has reported 19 cases, along with one death.

According to health officials, 908 Iowans have recovered from the coronavirus and 19,869 have been tested.
