Anyone who knows me understands what I mean when I say, “Asphalt is for getting there. Dirt is for racing on.” I'm a dirt track racing fan first and foremost. That being said, I do enjoy watching an asphalt race when a former dirt tracker is in the field.

Grimes, IA native Brett Moffitt earned an eighth place finish during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series 'Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500' at the Atlanta Motor Speedway (March 1, 2015). It made me smile as I watched yet another dirt track racer succeed at America's highest racing series, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

My racing life has taken me to several racetracks throughout the Midwest, eight states and 50-plus tracks over my travels. I've been blessed over my racing media career to watch and cover drivers like Carl Edwards, Clint Bowyer, Justin Allgaier, Landon Cassill, and even Brett Moffit. Seeing Moffitt score a Top 10 finish today was an awesome experience for me. Days like today remind me what these weekend warriors I love to watch are aiming for, success at its highest level.

One of my favorite 'Brett Moffitt Moments' was watching him score the IMCA SportMod feature win during the 2007 Harris Clash. Winning any event at the famed Knoxville Raceway is a great resume builder. So is a Top 10 finish in a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race.

Here's to more moments like this.
