The Iowa men's basketball program got a shot of good news this weekend. Something that finally offsets a troubling offseason for Fran McCaffery and the Hawkeyes. Tyler Cook left for the NBA. Maishe Daily and Isiah Moss transferred. Then the bombshell. Jordan Bohannon would need surgery and could miss the entire upcoming season. Well, Sunday Iowa landed their first ever graduate transfer in the Fran McCaffery era.

Valparaiso graduate transfer Bakari Evelyn announced that he was joining the Iowa men's basketball program. He committed after taking his official visit to Iowa City this past weekend.

Iowa was desperate for help in the backcourt and Evelyn certainly helps to fill that void. A Detroit prep, Evelyn originally committed to Nebraska out of high school. He played 18 games before transferring to Valpo. Several ankle issues, including a surgery, caused his production at Valpo to drop. He decided a new school was his best choice for a fresh start after averaging 8.4 points per game last season.

Evelyn also recently visited New Mexico State and had other schools like Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Cincinnati interested.
