Well, this is one list we didn't want to make. According to an article from Consumer Protect, Iowa is one of the most obese states in America. Yikes!

As of 2017, the CDC estimated that around 30% of American adults are obese. To give you an idea of how bad things are getting, in 1990 only around 15% of the population was obese. But, before we go any further, we need to know what qualifies somebody as obese. According to the article:

"The CDC defines obesity based on the Body Mass Indicator (BMI) scale and relates one’s height with weight. For adults, a BMI of over 30 qualifies as obese."

Iowa came in at number four out of all 50 states (plus D.C.), with 36.4% of adults living with obesity. The only states that beat us were West Virginia, Mississippi, and Oklahoma.

The strange thing is, we are not one of the states that gets the least amount of exercise. On that list we were number 31, with only 25% of the population engaging in no physical leisure activities. We also came in at number 29 on the list of adults that eat less than one fruit per day. That percentage was 35.6%.

The states with the lowest percentage of obese adults are Colorado, Washington D.C., and Hawaii.
