Iowa High School Volleyball Class 1A Regional Finals Tonight
The field for the 2016 Iowa High School Volleyball State Tournament will be set in Class 1A after Regional Championship match tonight (Nov. 1).
REGION 1: at LeMars, 7:00 PM
Lawton-Bronson versus George-Little Rock
When the final IGHSAU volleyball rankings of the season came out, Lawton-Bronston was ranked No. 11 in the poll. The Eagles beat Akron-Westfield 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-17) in the regional semifinals, while G-LR swept Gehlen Catholic of LeMars (25-15, 25-20, 26-24).
REGION 2: at Council Bluffs (Abraham Lincoln), 7:00 PM
Siouxland Christian versus Sidney
A win over Sidney would earn No. 13 Siouxland Christian its first trip to state. The Eagles topped Ar-We-Va of Westside, 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-14) in the regional semifinals, while Sidney advanced with a four-set win over Essex (28-30, 25-14, 25-18, 25-17).
REGION 3: at Perry, 7:00 PM
Grandview Christian versus Audubon
Fourth-ranked Grandview Christian battles No. 9 Audubon for the Region 3 bragging rights. Grandview Christina shutout East Union of Afton (25-16, 25-13, 28-26) in the regional semfinals, while the Wheelers swept Stanton, 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-8).
REGION 4: at Bondurant (Bondurant-Farrar), 7:00 PM
Hudson versus Lamoni
Second-ranked Hudson battles Lamoni in a regional championship match that was originally scheduled to be played at Colo (Colo-Nesco). The Pirates advanced with a three-set win over Green Mountain-Garwin (25-6, 25-10, 25-11), while Lamoni swept Southeast Warren of Liberty Center in three-sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-19).
REGION 5: at Clarion (Clarion-Goldfield), 7:00 PM
Janesville versus Bishop Garrigan
Defending state champion Janesville has been ranked No. 1 all season. The Wildcats advanced to the regional title match with a 3-0 win (25-11, 25-5, 25-19) over North Butler, while Bishop Garrigan came away from the semifinals with a hard-fought, five-set win at Fort Dodge Saint Edmond (23-25, 25-23, 25-23, 23-25, 15-8).
REGION 6: at Dunkerton, 7:00 PM
Tripoli versus Starmont
This is a match-up of area teams considered two of the best in Class-1A. Unfortunately, only one will make the trip to state. No. 6 Tripoli defeated Dunkerton 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-15) in Thursday night's regional semifinal, while No. 15 Starmont eliminated No. 14 Edgewood-Colesburg in three-sets (25-22. 25-22. 25-20).
REGION 7: at Monticello, 7:00 PM
Springville versus Easton Valley
No. 3 Springville had no problem getting past Belle Plaine in the regional semifinals, beating the Plainsmen 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-12). Easton Valley topped Morningstar Academy, 3-0 (25-7, 25-9 ,25-17).
REGION 8: at Washington, 7:00 PM
Holy Trinity Catholic versus Iowa Valley
Fifth-ranked Holy Trinity Catholic of Burlington topped New London, 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-15) Thursday night. Iowa Valley of Marengo also swept Seymour (25-11, 25-6, 25-16).
