This is a first... of what could be many if police and enforcement agents in Iowa are serious about COVID crackdowns for bar or restaurant owners who violate social distancing rules. KCRG reports Charles King, who owns Pour Bastards Pub in Newton has been arrested for just that, though he is facing other charges as well.

Last week, police found a standing room only crowd at the pub. Police warned the bar owner King of the guidelines, and this was not the first time they did so. He was also warned in August of the exact same issue. As a result of his lack of compliance, King was arrested and taken to the Jasper County jail, though KCCI reports that he first tore the report from police and refused to go into police custody. According to police, he then became resistant and refused to put his hands behind his back.

At the time of his arrest, court documents say King was found to be in possession of a pouch that held a vape cartridge which contained '8.2% THC and .2% CBD.' In addition to the health violation charge, King faces a charge for interference with official acts and possession of contraband in a correctional institution.

Newton, Iowa is roughly one hour and 45 minutes southwest of Waterloo.
