Independence Man Arrested On Sexual Abuse, Incest Charges

Authorities have arrested an Independence man on charges of third-degree sexual abuse and incest in connection with an incident that allegedly occurred in mid-July.

Shawn Brown is accused of sexually assaulting someone late in the evening of July 11 or the early morning of July 12. Independence police say the victim reported that there is family relationship to Brown.

According to police, authorities executed a search warrant at Brown’s home. During the search, clothing and bedding were seized as evidence in the case.

Officials say Brown was on probation at the time of his arrest and was subsequently charged with probation violation. He was taken into custody on Thursday.

Third-degree sexual abuse is a Class C Felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and sex offender registration. Incest is a Class D Felony, punishable by up to five years imprisonment and sex offender registration.
