The COVID-19 pandemic is still very much a part of our daily lives here in Iowa. Now, just saying 'COVID' or 'pandemic' conjures up emotion. For many, it makes scared, frustrated or a combination of both. Articles like this are not designed to do either, but rather inform. And, as we dig into these potentially alarming numbers, remember: Most people do recover from COVID-19.

Iowa's News Now and The Iowa Department of Public Health's COVID-19 reports that in the past 24 hours, 1,814 Iowans have tested positive for COVID-19, with 5,141 new tests, that equals a positivity rate of 35.3%. We've also had 22 additional deaths in the past 24 hours. But again, the news isn't all grim: 90,422 Iowans are now listed as having recovered, and in the past 24 hours, 1,009 recoveries were added.

The Midwest has been a COVID hotbed in recent weeks, and Wisconsin has posted some frightening totals. According to the Wisconsin State Journal, state Department of Health Services claim 64 deaths and 5,262 cases in the past 24 hours.

Remember, if you need a test, they're fast and free. You have two very good options in the Cedar Valley and Northeast Iowa.

  • Test Iowa (Remember, you do need an appointment which you can make online)
  • Hy-Vee's in the area offer tests by appointment

Months ago I took a test to discuss it on the air. It's not bad. The results generally comeback within a day or two tops.
