It is important to keep the planet in mind when going about your day to day life. As Iowans, we are invested in our land, after all. recycle when you can, re-use when possible, etc. etc.

So naturally that means we should keep our thermostat at 78 degrees when we're home, right?

Um wait, what?

Well according to a new report out from Energy Star, which is the EPA program that promotes energy efficiency. The recommendation for where you should be setting your thermostat is as follows:

  • 78 degrees when you're home.
  • 85 when you're not home.
  • 82 at night.

Ok, on a cold Iowa winters night, sure, 82 sounds marvelous. Heck, 78 would be fine too... BUT IN THE SUMMER? And what about states where it is hot year round? Yikes... We'd be better off sleeping outside on a humid August evening then in our own beds. But hey, if you sleep with the house at 82, you're saving the planet! Even if you won't be on it long enough to enjoy it since you've melted.
