The garden began in 2014 and produced over 1000 pounds of vegetables for people who receive food through the Cedar Valley Food Pantry, a program of the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. In 2015, the garden produced over 4000 pounds of vegetables. This year, their goal is to raise 6,000 pounds of product.

For the families that utilize the food pantry, many times this is their only access to fresh fruits and vegetables. This project allows the Food Bank to take advantage of under-utilized land, grow fresh vegetables and feed people through one of their programs. It has been a partnership with the community, UNI and Americorps, since the beginning.

“The Food Bank appreciates the partnership that Rudy’s Tacos provides and helps us with much needed resources to operate the garden,” stated Barbara Prather, Executive Director. “Please come out and support this project on August 16th because it will help us continue the project into the future. Thank you to Barry at Rudy’s for his support.”
