Garbage Truck Driver Injured and Cited in Accident

An Eastern Iowa garbage truck driver has been cited, after rolling his vehicle into a ditch.

The accident happened at about 3:30pm Tuesday (May 5), on Edgewood Road in Hiawatha.

An A-1 Disposal garbage truck, driven by 48 year old John Bibbs of Cedar Rapids, was southbound when he lost control while trying to negotiate a curve. The truck went off the road into a ditch, coming to rest on it's side.

Bibbs was taken to Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids with non-life threatening injuries. His passenger, 43 year old James Franks of Cedar Rapids, was not hurt.

Bibbs is being cited for Failure to Maintain Control.
The Iowa D.O.T. is investigating the accident.
