Feeding America has created the BackPack Program, which provides backpacks with nutritious meal and snack items to help children get the food they need in the Cedar Valley. Participating children can take the backpacks home with them on the weekend and enjoy meals that require minimal preparation. This program, which has been operating for over 15 years nationwide and currently feeds over 450,000 children weekly, and it relies on the generosity of others in order to keep the backpacks full to fight childhood hunger.

In the Cedar Valley, the BackPack Program is active through the work of local volunteers, who are holding a special "Food 4 Kids" event on December 4th from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM to benefit the program. Attendees can sample multi-ethnic cuisine and enjoy fun-filled activities and shopping, with traditional cultural clothing, accessories and jewelry available for purchase.

The event is open to the public and 100% of the proceeds will go toward funding area backpack meals. In addition to providing a fun opportunity for people to learn about another culture, this event provides a direct benefit to our community by raising thousands of dollars to help feed underprivileged children.

The "Food 4 Kids" event will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 650 Stephan Ave. in Waterloo. Tickets are available at the door.
