Flooding has forced a portion of Fletcher Ave. to be closed in Waterloo.

City officials have shut the flood gates, due to rising water from Black Hawk Creek. Fletcher Ave. is closed between University Ave. and U.S. Highway 63 (Sergeant Road), where it passes through Hope Martin Park.

Black Hawk Creek is a tributary of the Cedar River, which is under a flood warning until late Monday evening (May 7, 2018). The National Weather Service is forecasting minor flooding along the Cedar in Waterloo. The river is expected to crest about 1.7 feet above its 13-foot stage Saturday night.

According to city officials, the Fletcher Ave. flood gates will be re-opened once water levels recede.
