A Sumner man faces charges after he was found sleeping in his vehicle in the middle of the road, outside of Hawkeye.


At about 5:30am Saturday (May 25), the Fayette County Sheriff got a report of a person asleep in a vehicle, parked in the middle of 210th Street near Hawkeye.
When a deputy arrived, the vehicle had been moved a short distance, with a man passed out in the driver's seat, again parked in the middle of the road.
The driver, 30 year old Kory Schwan of Sumner, was arrested on charges of Operating While Intoxicated-2nd Offense, and Open Container. Schwan was held until his initial court appearance.

Fayette County authorities arrested a Dunkerton man, after he put his SUV into a ditch west of Oelwein Saturday afternoon.
58 year old Benjamin Shimp had lost control of his vehicle and drove into the ditch near 50th Street and Unicorn Avenue. No one was injured and there was no damage.
Shimp was arrested for OWI First Offense, and Failure to Maintain Control.
