An Evansdale man was injured in a two-vehicle accident that closed the main route to Waterloo's northeast industrial businesses for nearly 90 minutes Monday morning.

According to Black Hawk County sheriff's officials, Martin Gleason was taken to a Waterloo hospital to be treated for what they described as "non-life-threatening injuries". Gleason's car was struck head-on by a pick-up truck that tried to miss hitting a deer.

The crash happened on South Elk Run Road just before 6:30 AM at a time when first-shift employees at John Deere and IBP were heading to work and third-shift employees were heading home. Authorities diverted traffic off of South Elk Run Road between Osage and Dubuque Roads until the accident scene was cleared.

According to sheriff's officials, Glen Kistler of Urbana was traveling southbound on Elk Run Road when he swerved to avoid hitting a deer. Officials said Kistler's vehicle struck the deer, then entered into the path of Gleason's northbound vehicle. Gleason swerved into the southbound lane, but the two vehicle's collided head-on when Kistler steered back into his lane of traffic.

Kistler escaped injury.
