Early Morning Fire Kills Rural Oelwein Woman
A deadly fire in rural Oelwein is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall.
Oelwein Firefighters were called out at about 2am Thursday (Dec. 8) to a blaze reported at a property at 14363 35th Street, or Highway 3, just east of Oelwein, where a camper was on fire.
The call was made by a man, who told authorities that his 62 year old wife was trapped inside the burning camper, parked near an unoccupied farm house.
Fire crews found the camper engulfed; they worked to keep the blaze from spreading to the abandoned house and an lp tank.
The woman's body was found inside the burned-out camper. Her name has not yet been released.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
Firefighters also had to battle the bitter cold temperatures in yesterday morning's blaze.
