The Winneshiek County Sheriff reports that a motorist from Minnesota spent the night in a cornfield following a one vehicle accident Wednesday night (Oct. 9).


The accident happened at about 10pm on County Road A14 in Hesper Township.

A car driven by 62 year old Mark Stutzman of Canton, Minnesota, was traveling east on the county road, when he lost control. The vehicle went into the ditch, hit a field driveway, then landed in a cornfield.

No one was aware of Stutzman's accident until the next morning. Stutzman was taken to an area hospital for treatment. He is being charged with failure to maintain control.

Stutzman's 2013 Ford Focus sustained $6,100 worth of damage.
