Fayette County Sheriff's deputies were kept quite busy investigating 2 accidents that happened in the same area, within minutes of each other.

The first accident happened at about 10:11am Friday (Dec. 23) at the intersection of "W" Avenue and 120th Street, southeast of Sumner.

A car driven by 37 year old Brooke Myers of Sumner went out of control, crossed the center line, into the path of a semi, hauling round bales of hay. The two collided, sending both vehicles into the ditch. Myers was taken to the Sumner hospital with minor injuries; the semi driver, 52 year old William Headington of Decorah, was not hurt. Myers car was totaled and the semi had $2,500 in damage.

Just 4 minutes later, at 10:15am, near the same intersection, 40 year old Jeremy Menuey of Sumner, had stopped along the road to assist another motorist, when his pickup was rear-ended by a car driven by 60 year old Bruce Niebuhr of Fairbank.

The pickup was pushed into the ditch. A 14 year old passenger in the pickup was taken to the Sumner hospital, to be treated for minor injuries.

Menuey's 2007 Chevrolet Pickup had $3,500 in damages, while Niebuhr's 2006 Cadillac SRX sustained $5,000 damages.

Westgate and Sumner Fire Departments assisted the Fayette County Sheriff.
